    • Mike entered the USA Army in April, 1967 and was assigned to the 25th Foot (Infantry Division). He began his first Tour of Duty in South Vietnam September 6, 1968. The following December, Mike was awarded his first Bronze Star Medal for Heroic Meritorious Achievement In Combat. Soon thereafter, Mike was awarded 2 more Bronze Star Medals and The Silver Star for Gallantry In Action In Combat With Marked Distinction.
      Saturday, April 12, 1969, near Base Camp in the Province of Binh Duong, South Vietnam, Mike gave the Ultimate Sacrifice -- Freedom Is Never Free! Mike was Killed In Action. Shortly thereafter, Mike was repatriated to his mother and Father and he rested at home with them for a day or two Mike now sleeps in New Haven Cemetary near Sumner, Michigan. Mike is now and will always be very much missed by his family. And, Mike is remembered with much love and great pride by the members of his Graduating Class of 1966, Ithaca, Michigan -- Ithaca1966Michigan.Com. Moose, Squirrel, and Smitty have set a wreath at the head of Mike's grave every year since Mike came back home.
