- Claude L. Allen Jr., Hebron headmaster
SOUTH PARIS - Claude L. Allen Jr., 75, died Monday in a Norway hospital. He was born in Melrose, Mass., son of Claude L. Sr. and
Lovisa Delamater Allen. He was a graduate of Phillips-Andover Academy, and Harvard University, class of 1929, where he was a member of the Phi Eta Club. Mr. Allen was headmaster at Hebron Academy from 1945 until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Headmaster's Association, the Hebron Community Baptist Church where he was chairman of the board of trustees, the Masons of South Deerfield, Mass., and an active member of the Norway-Paris Kiwanis Club. Mr. Allen received honorary degrees from Bowdoin, Colby and Bates Colleges in recognition of his achievements in education. He had lived in the Norway-South Paris area since his retirement, coming from Hebron, where he resided 27 years. He married Eleanor Davy in 1933. Besides his wife of South Paris, he is survived by two daughters, Constance A. Eastburn of Doylestown, Pa., and Jane A. Smith of Kennebunk; a son, Peter of South Paris; a sister, Mrs. Irvine H. Page of Hyannisport, Mass.; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Hebron Community Baptist Church, which is the Hebron Academy Chapel, the Rev. Robert Crist officiating. Interment will be in the Hebron Academy Cemetery
