Notes - Benjamin Abell, born about 1687; died May 28, 1769; married March 17, 1713-4, Lydia, born September 1, 1694 at Topsfields, Mass., daughter of Lieutenant Thomas and Mary (Howlett) Hazen. Thomas was born January 29, 1658 in Rowley, died April 12, 1735 in Norwich, the son of Edward (the Immigrant) Hazen and Hannah Grant. Mary was born 1664; daughter of Thomas Howlett, II, and Lydia Peabody, daughter of Francis Peabody. Thomas was the son of Ensign Thomas and Alice (French) Howlett. Benjamin owned 49 Acres of land on the high hill above Joseph Airses house, abutting on the Commons, it being his wood Lot and 40 Acres’Lot, granted by the Town June 9, 1710. He owned 13 Acres of land abutting on the lands of Peter Cross and Caleb Abell and the Highway, land formerly belonging to Jonathan Genings and deeded to Benjamin Abel, 50 Acres of land abutting on the Commons and near Joshua Abell's land, formerly belonging to his Father, 10 Acres of land abutting on Beaver Brook and the Commons, a grant from the Town to his Father. These four parcels were ordered to be recorded to him November 1712, by his mother Hanna Calkins, administrator to his Father's estate. Benjamin also owned 30 Acres of land upon the middle hill, abutting on the lands of John Tracy heirs, the Brook, Caleb Abell and Kingberrye's land. This grant was delivered to him as part of his portion of his Father's estate and ordered to be recorded to him by his Uncle Caleb, December 28, 1709. He also owned 5 Acres of land on the great hill between Joseph Airs Farm and Showtucket River, laid out January 1714-5, 3 Acres on the side of the hill, abutting on the Highway, the Commons and his land, laid out April 1715, 20 Acres abutting on the Commons, Joseph Aire and Daniel Rockwell lands, 4 Acres abutting his land and the Commons, laid out June 1718, 20 Acres, his sheep Lot on forty acre hill, abutting on the Highway and the Commons, laid out May 1718, 16 Acres on side of hill near Airses house, abutting on his land, the Brook, Highway and Timothy Aier land, 15 Acres side of Airses hill, abutting his land, the commons and Rev. Willses lands, entered February 11, 1720-1. Timothy Ayer deeded to Benjamin, 5 Acres and 51 rods of land on the Great Hill above Mr. Ayer's Father, November 18, 1734. Daniel Rockwell sold 2 Acres of land to Benjamin, February 2, 1741-2. Jacob Hide sold 2 Acres of land to Benjamin, June 16, 1741.
