Notes - Timothy escaped the title Farm Labourer borne by his ancestors by education. It wasn't formal; it was an apprenticeship as a Blacksmith in Kilmington, Devon. He married Thurza Henson {1830} born Burliscombe in 1852. He became the Dalwood Blacksmith as a journeyman and sired four boys. I expect metalworkers were besieged by the offers of fledgling industries in Ontario. He left his family and sailed for Canada in 1856. I wanted to check his passage, but I never figured out how to do it. At that time Aurora Ontario had a plow company building the new steel mollboard plows. He made straight for there and possibly used the first Canadian railway Toronto to Aurora. Within the year the company moved to Guelph. En route at that point were Thurza and the four scions [in a sailing vessel] Rather than move he was hired by two lumber companies in Vandorf to shoe their horses. Likely, contracts were offered on lumbering of prime forest and Timothy and the boys became involved. One great uncle, Richard, was killed by a falling tree. Eventually, the family moved to Newmarket and Timothy worked at Cane's Furniture factory. (Written by Donald Trivett, Canada)
Newmarket Era July 21, 1905 Deceased In town, at his residence, Srigley Street, on Tuesday, July 18, 1905, Timothy Trivett, in his 80th year.
Once more that unwelcome guest, the Angel of Death, has entered a Newmarket home and laid its chill finger on one of our aged citizens. Last Monday Mr. Timothy Trivett, I, suffered a paralytic stroke, and early Tuesday morning his immortal spirit silently departed for that land "from whose bourne no traveller ever returns. " A family of one daughter and seven sons survive to mourn their loss: Mrs. John Warren, and Harry, Samuel, George, Timothy, Peter, William, Albert: four children deceased. The Funeral on Thursday afternoon was largely attended, all his children living being present. Reverend Chidley, in the absence of their pastor, Reverend R. J. Fallis, conducted the last sad rites. Cane's Factory, in whose employ Mr. Trivett had been for 28 years, shut down for the afternoon out of respect for the deceased, a large number of his fellow employees attending to pay their last tribute to his memory.
Mr. Trivett was born in Shute, Devonshire, England and came to Aurora in 1857 and followed his trade of Blacksmith there and in Vandorf, Ballantrae and Vivian until 34 years ago when he entered the employ of Cane's factory in East Gwillimbury. He came to Newmarket with the firm and continued in their employ until six years ago when he ceased active labour. Deceased was an active member of the Newmarket Methodist Church and in politics a staunch Conservative.
The two met in Kilmington Devon where Timothy served his apprenticeship as a Blacksmith. She worked for the inn public house keeper. Harry was likely conceived if not born out of wedlock. After the marriage of Tim and Thurza they moved to Dalwood where Tim practiced his trade. 3 more boys were born to the couple including Samuel my Grandfather. Tim possibly enticed by a manufacturer from Ontario came to Canada and Thurza and the 4 boys followed. Tim's first job was Blacksmith in Vandorf between two wood yards likely shoeing and fixing machinery for the sawyers. Of course her Young Street, was Yonge Street, and it never ran to Jackson's Point. (referring to story under John Henry Trivett written by Hazel Trivett) George Yonge came from Colyton Devon which is 3 miles south of Shute. Kilmington is 3 miles east and Dalwood is a mile north.
