- Edith died a spinster, Probate in London on August 18 1936. She left 4352.00 pounds to be split with her brother William Arnott, physician and Annie Stephenson Arnott, spinster, her sister.
Compiled Purchase Family Tree, December, 1924 from Beverley, East Yorkshire, England.
Hello, In the 1891 census, our Edith H. Arnott is listed as 11 years old, and William is 9 years old.
9 year old William is not William Ralph, who is listed above Edith H. on her scroll. William Ralph was born around June, 1876, and died in 1877. The family used the William name again, after our Edith was born. William was born in 1881. He is listed on Edith's chart, about an inch below Edith.
Note that Edith H. (for Harriet) had a sister, (Harriet) Edith. I think that Harriet Edith was a twin of William Ralph, and she also died in infancy, in 1877. Just one more example of name recycling.
I was thinking exactly the same thing about finding someone who might have known Edith, or who is carrying on her work. Edith was only 44 years old in 1924; if she lived to only 74 years, that would be 1954, and that's only 50 years ago. Edith had two brothers, with male offspring would could carry on the Arnott name. Brother John Thompson Arnott had one son born in 1905, who might have children. There is a street address for John on Edith's scroll, in Leeds.
Brother William had two sons in living in 1924, in Crossways, Barnoldswick, East Yorks.
Edith's nephews are probably dead, but if they had children, they might still be around. It would be a real coup to find an update of Edith's work; maybe even some more details on the first generation. Makes you almost want to go to Yorkshire, doesn't it? Regards, Charlie.
The house where she was living at her time of death sold for 419000.00 in 2016. Her sister Annie lived there till her death.
