  • Notes
    • Victor, Loleta and son Charles migrated to US at Noyes, Minnesota, USA on 10 9 1942.
Victor H. Fisher was born in Lauder, Manitoba, Canada on January 20, 1902. His family soon left for western Canada to homestead. They settled near Fox Creek. Alberta, Canada

His early schooling was completed in Canada. The family moved to Independence for one year when Victor attended the George Bryant School, completing the seventh grade. He then returned to Canada where, for almost ten years, he helped his Father run the family Farm and threshing service.

In the 1920's, Victor was a student at Graceland College for one year. There he won the college prize for writing an original short story.

In his early twenties, Victor prospected for gold in the remote provinces of Canada with his Uncle Dan Keeler. Then, at twenty-six, he embarked on an arctic expedition with two brothers and a brother?in?law that lasted eighteen months and covered more than ten thousand miles by dog sled and canoe.
They changed their original plan to canoe south to the Panama Canal. Instead, they returned early to attend to pressing family needs.

Victor became a member of the RLDS Church in Canada and served as a Pastor in Winnipeg, Canada for more than five years. He also served as a Pastor in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, USA for one year.

He met Loleta Pearl Johnson while visiting in Minneapolis and married her on October 6, 1940. Victor studied and passed the licensure test to become an Operating Engineer in Winnipeg, Canada. He left Canada in January, 1943 to move to Independence, Jackson, Missouri, USA where he lived for nearly 46 years. While living in Independence Vic worked as an Operating Engineer for more than 30 years.

Victor was an Elder in the Church. He also wrote children's stories and numerous articles for Church publications on theological subjects. He authored a book entitled The Godhead that delineated certain aspects of the Holy Ghost, Jesus, and God.

Victor was known for his generous spirit and sense of fair play. He was very gifted mechanically and produced many practical inventions during his lifetime. He loved fine craftsmanship and often used his abilities to fix things for others without thought of compensation.

He loved children and would do many special things for others' children as well as his own three sons and daughter. He grasped the importance of spending time in shaping young people's lives.

Victor also realized the importance of education. Although he had very little formal education, Victor possessed the attribute of a truly educated person - the ability to teach one's self. This allowed him to accomplish such things its writing of a series of articles detailing his Arctic experiences for the Independence Examiner. The articles later became the basis for a book describing the Arctic Skipper's adventures in the Far North.

Victor possessed a love of nature and animals. This was reflected in the many pets he had and the various outdoor activities he participated in.

The essence of Victor could be summed up in his generous spirit and his sense of fairness. This often led him to mediate others' disputes or to provide support for anyone in need of it.

      Immigration to US

      To the American Consulate General
      Winnipeg, Canada
      September 5, 1942

The following information is volunteered for your consideration; I went to the USA in about 1915 and was educated in the American public schools at Independence, Jackson, Missouri, USA Later I returned to the USA attended College at Lamoni, Iowa. At one time I took out a Visa for the USA, but returned to Canada before second papers were secured.

I am a licensed power Engineer covering steam, refrigeration, and electrical engineering. I am a licensed combustion Engineer with special license covering oil equipment also.

I have an interest in a company formed in the USA for manufacturing heating equipment, which I invented. I spent two years in the USA perfecting these devises and spent about $5, 000 in cash alone. Another $15, 000 was spent by Messer's Young and Stevens. In order to make a success of manufacturing and marketing this equipment it will need my personal attention.

Patents on poultry killing equipment net me over $2, 000 each year and have been doing so for about 10 years. I have over $22, 000 worth of dies and tools for the manufacture of these poultry killers. It would be my plan to take these through to the USA where a large market exists and start manufacturing from there. I would expect to carry on a combustion engineering business, which includes the designing and the construction of industrial furnaces of all types.

My Wife is an American and has retained her American citizenship and I have a seven-month-old boy. My house rents for $40 per month.
