  • Notes
    • James son of Thomas was convicted in Bognor, Sussex in 1827 of stealing and smuggling six gallons of brandy and fined 100 pounds. The actual reason James and younger brother, Henry emigrated, was because both families were on relief and were a financial drain on the town coffers of the local parish. The South Bersted town councillors paid 80 pounds towards their passage to York, Upper Canada in 1832.
